Strong winds and large waves to impact eastern Newfoundland

Very strong winds are expected across eastern Newfoundland beginning this evening.

Some areas could see wind gusts to 120 km/h over exposed coastal areas. The winds will be the strongest tonight and strong winds will continue through Saturday.

Winds this high have the potential to cause power outages.

Coastal flooding is also possible. Waves of 6 to 9 metres are possible for St. John's and the northern Avalon. Coastal erosion may occur, coastal flooding is possible and damage to coastal structures may occur.
