Storm to impact Newfoundland on Remembrance Day

An area of low pressure is expected to strengthen off the south coast of Newfoundland tonight and will bring a mix of rain, snow, and strong winds to Newfoundland beginning overnight.

Rain is expected to begin tonight over most of Newfoundland.

On Thursday rain will pick up in intensity and most of southern, central, and eastern Newfoundland will see heavy rain on Remembrance Day. At times rain may become mixed with snow.

Areas that are inland and over higher terrain will see snow.

The heaviest rain will fall across the Avalon where 15 to 30 mm of rain is expected. Areas that are inland and over high terrain could see 5 to 10 cm of snow.

Strong winds are also expected for central and eastern Newfoundland. Winds will be strongest on Thursday night. Gusts between 80 and 100 km/h are possible.

Conditions will improve on Friday.
