A 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after fleeing from police and attempting to evade capture by boarding a Metrobus in St. John’s.

Around 8:10 p.m. on July 31, members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a business on Waterford Bridge Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen, and the driver had already fled on foot.

Police later confirmed that the same vehicle had been involved in an earlier incident involving a flight from police in Dildo.

As the investigation unfolded, officers identified a suspect and began searching the area. Security personnel at the Village Mall soon contacted police to report that a man matching the suspect’s description had boarded a Metrobus.

Police intercepted the bus and arrested the suspect on board.

The man now faces multiple charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and breach of a probation order.
