Stephenville man faces charges after fleeing from RCMP #nltraffic

A 21-year-old man from Stephenville is facing multiple charges after fleeing police during a traffic stop in Piccadilly on Thursday.

When an officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The officer did not pursue. The vehicle and driver were located a while later. The driver admitted to drinking and driving and provided a roadside breath sample that was above the provincial limit.

He was issued a driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded. The man faces charges of flight from police, driving while prohibited and dangerous operation of a vehicle.

The accused was released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date.
