Statistics Canada has begun in-person follow-up efforts for the 2026 Census, with enumerators visiting households that have not yet completed their census questionnaires.

Follow-up activities are now underway to ensure all households are counted.

In addition to phone calls, census enumerators will begin going door to door in communities across the country to remind residents to complete the census and provide assistance where needed.

Statistics Canada said enumerators can help residents complete their questionnaires in person if they have not yet responded or are unable to complete the forms on their own.

Thousands of enumerators have been hired nationwide as part of the census effort, with most recruited from the communities where they will be working.

Officials are reminding Canadians that all census employees carry official identification. Residents who are unsure about the legitimacy of a census worker can verify their identity by contacting the Census Help Line.

The Census of Population collects demographic, social and economic information from households across Canada, while the Census of Agriculture gathers data from farms and agricultural operations.

Statistics Canada said the information collected through both censuses helps governments, businesses and organizations make decisions about programs, services and infrastructure in communities across the country.
