Following a lengthy stand-off with police, 35-year-old Dean Rumbolt was arrested by RCMP on Thursday.

The police were called to a report of an assault and property damage. Rumbolt was identified as the accused. Rumbolt presented himself at the door and was informed of his arrest. He refused to exit the home and blocked access.

Officers from Gander and Glovertown detachment remained outside the residence while a warrant to enter the home was obtained. Residents on the same floor of Rumbolt’s apartment were evacuated as a precaution.

RCMP NL’s Emergency Response Team, a Crisis Negotiator and Police Dog Services attended the scene.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Rumbolt surrendered himself to police and was arrested without further incident.

He was charged with assault, mischief under $5000.00, uttering threats, obstructing a police officer, and breach of probation.

The investigation is continuing.
