At 9:05 pm on Monday, the RNC was called to Hallidays Meats in Downtown St. John's after a complaint of an assault.

When officers arrived a man was being held down by staff of the business.

Police determined that the man being held down had tried to rob the store with a weapon and destroyed the cash register in the process.

The 33-year-old man was charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of uttering threats. The accused was checked for minor injuries received during the scuffle by medical staff and later transported to the city lock-up for a court appearance.
