The City of St. John’s is asking residents and businesses to weigh in on draft recommendations for new neighbourhood plans covering the Rennie’s River, Central and Mundy Pond areas.

City officials say the plans are intended to adapt the broader goals of the Envision St. John’s Municipal Plan to the needs of specific communities.

“Last September, community members took the time to share what matters most to them,” Coun. Tom Davis, council lead for planning, said in a statement. “We’ve used that feedback to inform the draft recommendations, and now we’re returning to residents to make sure we’re moving in the right direction.”

The city is seeking input on several planning topics, including the mix of land uses, building height and density, transportation, open spaces and the protection of natural and cultural heritage features.

Officials say the Central and Mundy Pond neighbourhoods are being examined together because of their close proximity and shared characteristics.

Residents can provide feedback through surveys and online submissions, as well as by attending public engagement sessions. Open houses are scheduled for March 2 at The Lantern on Barnes Road for the Rennie’s River neighbourhood and March 4 at the St. John’s Community Market on Freshwater Road for the Central and Mundy Pond areas. Virtual sessions are also planned for March 11 and March 12.

The city says feedback will be accepted until March 15, 2026, and will help shape the final neighbourhood plans.
