The City of St. John's is seeking public feedback on redesign options for Churchill Square.

There will be two virtual, public information sessions scheduled on March 25. The first one will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and the second one will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Residents can register for the sessions by visiting engagestjohns.ca, calling 311 or 754-2489, or emailing access@stjohns.ca.

The project team has been developing a concept plan for the area based on the ideas and suggestions of the stakeholders and the public. The proposed plan will be presented to Council in 2021 for consideration. The plan will be accompanied by the feedback collected during this final round of public engagement.

A few key themes that emerged from the public consultation process include:

  • The space needs to be pedestrian and community-oriented

  • More outdoor amenities and upgrades to current infrastructure is needed

  • Ample parking is critical to the success of businesses in Churchill Square

  • Well-spaced accessible parking, and improved accessibility of buildings is required

  • Re-configuration of traffic flow and/or parking could provide more community space

  • More greenspace and improved snow clearing
