St. John’s reminds residents to cover garbage starting April 1

The City of St. John’s is reminding residents that all garbage placed at the curb must be fully covered beginning April 1.

The seasonal requirement, which remains in effect until Nov. 30, is aimed at reducing litter in neighbourhoods, streets, parks and open spaces.

Acceptable methods of covering waste include using nets or placing garbage in metal or plastic containers with tightly secured lids. The city also noted that lids on city-issued garbage carts must be completely closed.

In addition, residents are reminded that waste must not be placed at the curb before 6 a.m. on scheduled collection days.
