The City of St. John’s has issued a reminder that dogs are not permitted on sports facilities, whether on or off leash.
Even when it’s not visible, dog waste can leave behind bacteria and parasites that may pose health risks to people using the fields. This is especially important in sports fields, where players regularly contact the ground. Dog activity can also damage turf, creating bare or unsafe patches that take time and resources to repair.
There are designated off-leash dog parks throughout the city.
Residents are also reminded to know where their dog can go, keep their dog on a leash, stoop and scoop after your pet, and don’t leave your pet unattended in a parked car, especially as temperatures rise.
