St. John's releases list of school zones

The City of St. John's has released a list of school zones in the city.

As of Tuesday school zones are in place for the following areas:

• Pennywell Road – Bishop Abraham Elementary School

• Bond Street – Bishop Feild Elementary School

• Canada Drive – Cowan Heights Elementary School

• Doyles Road – Goulds Elementary School

• Hazelwood Crescent – Hazelwood Elementary School

• Larkhall Street – Larkhall Academy

• Toronto Street – Macdonald Drive Elementary School

• Elizabeth Avenue – Rennie’s River Elementary School

• Airport Heights Drive – Roncalli Elementary School

• University Avenue – St. Andrew’s Elementary School

• Linegar Avenue – St. John Bosco School

• Cowan Avenue – St. Matthew’s School

• Mundy Pond Road – St. Teresa’s School

• Ennis Avenue – Vanier Elementary School

• Middleton Street – Virginia Park Elementary School

• Waterford Bridge Road – St. Mary’s Elementary School

In school zones, motorists are to reduce their speed to a maximum of 30 km/h. The speed limit of 30 km/h is in effect from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days.

When in a school zone, leave your phone alone, and watch for children walking and cycling to school. Watch for school buses. When their lights are flashing, vehicles approaching from both directions must stop.

Remember that if a vehicle stops in front of you or in the lane next to you, they may be yielding to a pedestrian, so proceed with caution and be prepared to stop.

Before getting into your vehicle, walk around it to make sure there are no small children hidden from view.
