St. John’s man charged after tracked merchandise leads police to suspect

A 42-year-old man is facing theft and breach of probation charges after police tracked stolen merchandise to a backyard in St. John’s.

At about 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, members of the RNC responded to a reported theft from a business in the east end of the city.

Police say the merchandise stolen in the incident contained a hidden anti-theft tracking device. Officers tracked the suspect to the east end of St. John’s.

When the suspect saw police, he ran and attempted to hide while still carrying the merchandise containing the tracking device.

Police continued tracking the suspect and located him in a nearby backyard.

The 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft and breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear before a judge Monday morning.
