St. John's Firefighters extinguish two vehicle fires on Wednesday

Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded to two vehicle fires on Wednesday.
The first vehicle fire firefighters responded to was just before 7:15 p.m. on Cherokee Drive near MacBeth Drive in the city’s East End in Airport Heights. When firefighters from Kent’s Pond fire station arrived on scene a sport utility vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, the vehicle did sustain significant fire damage. Neighbors said “we were inside and only thing we heard was a loud bang and when we looked out side we saw a orange glow”.
The second call came in just after 9:35 p.m. for reports of a vehicle fire on the Trans-Canada Highway West of the Kenmount Road overpass. When firefighters from Paradise fire station arrived on scene a Minivan was fully engulfed In flames. Officer with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary closed the Westbound lanes for approximately 20 minutes to allow firefighters to safely extinguish the blaze. The Minivan did sustain significant fire damage.
It is unknown if there were any injuries reported in both incidents.
