A St. John’s couple is celebrating a $675,000 lottery win — their second major Scratch’N Win top prize in eight years.

Angelina and Edward Lado recently won the Set for Life top prize on a $4 Atlantic Lottery Scratch’N Win ticket.

The Set for Life game gives top-prize winners the choice between receiving $1,000 a week for 25 years or a $675,000 lump-sum payment. The Lados chose the lump-sum option.

Edward said he initially had trouble believing Angelina when she told him they had won.

“I thought maybe she was bluffing when she told me, I really couldn’t believe it,” Edward said. “I told her to calm down and when I come home, we will see if it is for real.”

The couple is no stranger to major lottery wins. In 2018, they won the $2.5-million top prize on a Multi-Millionaire Scratch’N Win ticket.

Despite their previous win, the couple said they are still in disbelief about winning another major prize.

“We play but modestly, especially now, but if you don’t play, you don’t win,” Edward said. “We’ve purchased bigger tickets and not won anything significant on them and then Set for Life costs just $4 and we did.”

The couple plans to use some of the winnings to help their children, who are attending college and university, with their education and to give them a head start in life.

For now, the Lados say they are taking their time before making any other decisions about the money.

“We will think about anything else along the way but for now we are just digesting the moment and letting it sink in,” Edward said. “We don’t want to rush into anything, taking our time is the best option and things will fall into place as life progresses.”

Angelina purchased the winning ticket at Kiwanis Street Marie’s Mini Mart in St. John’s.

The retailer will receive a seller’s prize equal to one per cent of the winning ticket’s prize.
