St. John's Christmas and New Year Holiday Schedule

Due to the upcoming holidays, all City offices and facilities are closed in St. John's as of noon on Thursday, Dec. 24 and will re-open on Tuesday, Dec. 29. Closing at noon on Thursday, Dec. 31 and re-opening on Monday, Jan. 4.
There are some exceptions:
Access St. John’s is available to residents 24/7; however front counter service is unavailable during times noted above.
Paid parking regulations will not be enforced after noon on Thursday, Dec. 24; Friday, Dec. 25; Monday, Dec. 28; after noon on Thursday, Dec. 31; and, Friday, Jan. 1.
Animal Care and Adoption Centre will be providing service from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29 and Wednesday, Dec. 30, and from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2 and Sunday, Jan. 3. Please note the shelter remains closed to the public for drop-in service.
The next City Council meeting takes place at 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 11 and the next Committee of the Whole meeting will take place Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 9 a.m.
Recreation Facilities
The H.G.R. Mews Community Centre and Paul Reynolds Community Centre will close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 24 and re-open on Sunday, Dec. 27 and close at noon on Thursday, Dec. 31 and re-open on Saturday, Jan. 2.
All other recreation facilities are closed from noon Thursday, Dec. 24 and re-open Saturday, Jan. 2.
Waste Collection
To accommodate extra garbage during the holiday season, the City of St. John’s will allow residents to include two extra bags in their regular collection, Jan. 4 - 8. Please place the bags alongside the automated cart on your collection day.
Please remember that holiday wrap is not recyclable.
There is no waste collection on Friday, Dec. 25. The waste collection schedule for Area 5 moves to Tues. December 29.
There is no waste collection on Monday, December 28. The waste collection schedule for Area 1 moves to Tuesday, Dec. 29.
There is no waste collection on Friday, Jan. 1. Collection for Area 5 moves to Monday Jan. 4.
Christmas Tree Drop Off Location
Only natural, undecorated trees are accepted as they will be mulched for use in landscaping projects in City parks and open spaces. Please do not bundle or tie the tree.
Quidi Vidi Lake, large gravel parking lot off The Boulevard; Tuesday, Dec. 29 to Sunday, Jan. 10; excluding December 31 and January 1 when the parking lot will be closed due to the New Years firework display. If the fireworks display is postponed until January 1, then the parking lot will be closed for the Christmas tree drop off until January 2.
Robin Hood Bay Residential Drop-Off, 340 East White Hills Road, from Tuesday, Dec. 29 to Saturday, Jan 9.
The Loop at Bannerman Park
The Loop at Bannerman Park is open for the season. Restrictions are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including a maximum capacity of 40 persons for each 50-minute skating session beginning at the top of each hour. The Loop will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with the following exceptions:
December 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
December 25 closed
