St. John's by-election to take place on March 12

The by-election for the vacant Ward 4 Council seat in St. John's will take place on Tuesday, March 12.

A by-election is required following the resignation of Ward 4 Councillor Ian Froude, effective December 22. Under the Municipal Elections Act, a by-election must be held within three months of the vacancy occurring.

February 6 to 13 are the days on which nomination of candidates for Ward 4 Councillor will take place.

Nominations must be in writing and state the name and residence of the candidate and be signed by the proposer and seconder, both of whom shall be present with the candidate, who will also sign signifying their acceptance.

The proposer and seconder must be eligible to vote in this election, meaning they must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older and ordinarily a resident in Ward 4 of the City of St. John’s for the 30 days immediately preceding election day.
