The City of St. John’s has approved more than $1.8 million in funding through its Community and Capital Grants program for 2026.

City council approved $1,368,800 in community grants and $499,575 in capital grants. The city will also waive $97,929.49 in permit and development fees as part of the program.

The grants are provided through the City of St. John’s Grants and Subsidies Program, which offers financial support and other resources to non-profit organizations and individuals whose initiatives align with the city’s strategic priorities.

Coun. Jill Bruce, lead councillor for community services, said the funding recognizes the role community groups and artists play in the city.

“We’re honoured to invest in the community groups, organizations and artists whose dedication and creativity shape St. John’s into an inclusive and thriving city,” Bruce said in a statement.

This year’s community grants will support 132 community organizations and 62 individual artists. The city says 48 of the recipients are new to the program.
