Sixteen People have been Displaced Following a fire in Downtown St. John’s

Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department were called to an apartment building on Cochrane Street in downtown St. John’s at approximately 1:10 p.m. on Thursday.
Firefighters from central station arrived to smoke coming from the roof of the building. Firefighters quickly entered the building and made their way to the fourth floor, where they were met by fire and smoke in an apartment. Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread further into the building.
Everyone was evacuated and firefighters searched the building to ensure no one was still inside.
Approximately sixteen people have been displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The building sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage. The intersection of Cochrane Street and Gower Street was closed for some time as emergency personnel attended the scene.
