SIRT-NL investigating officer involved shooting in St. John's

The Director of the Serious Incident Response Team Michael King was notified this morning about an RNC officer involved shooting on Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s.

The incident occurred at 10:50 am this morning. A male is dead as a result of the incident. The officer involved sustained injuries but has since been released from hospital.

SIRT-NL is still in the process of locating and notifying the family of the deceased.

As the investigation is ongoing SIRT-NL will not comment further. SIRT-NL is asking anyone who can provide information, including video footage of the area of Regatta Plaza, at the corner of New Cove Rd and Elizabeth Avenue, between 9:30 am and 1:30 am, on June 12, to contact SIRT-NL at (709) 738-7478.

The RNC says they are cooperating with a SIRT-NL investigation.
