Sherry Gambin-Walsh Removed from Cabinet after RCMP Raids Home

Sherry Gambin-Walsh has been removed from Cabinet after the RCMP raided her home after serving her with a warrant.

The RCMP is investigating the matter at this time that pertains to the minister allegedly leaking confidential government information.

The leak apparently occurred on June 1st, 2018 and March 12th, 2020.

Electronic devices have been seized.

Premier Ball announced that Minister Tom Osborne will take on the role of acting Minister of Service NL while maintaining the Minister of Finance portfolio.

Ball said, “Yesterday, Ms. Sherry Gambin-Walsh contacted me and informed me that she was served with a General Warrant. It was at that point that I immediately took the necessary steps to remove her from Cabinet and her Cabinet responsibilities.”

Gambin-Walsh was elected to the House of Assembly in the 2015 provincial election.

She represents the electoral district of Placentia-St. Mary's as a member of the Liberal Party.

Following the 2015 election, she served as Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development until moving to Service NL in a 2017 cabinet shuffle.

In April 2018, Gambin-Walsh confirmed she was one of the MHAs who filed a complaint against Cabinet Minister Eddie Joyce accusing him of bullying and harassment.

She was re-elected in the 2019 provincial election.
