Seeking Public Assistance on Big Game Poaching
The Resource Enforcement Division of the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is seeking information related to the recent, illegal harvest of a moose on the old rail bed near the weigh scales east of Goobies.
Officers responded to the area on August 18, 2021, locating the front half of a moose carcass on the rail bed. It is believed the animal was killed during the late hours of August 17 or into the early morning hours of August 18.
If charged and subsequently convicted for a first offence, the maximum penalty for hunting during a closed season is $5,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both, and prohibition from holding a big game licence for five years from the date of conviction.
Investigators are encouraging persons with information, or anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area between August 17 and 18, to contact the Resource Enforcement Division at 709-729-2192.
