SEA-NL expressing disappointment with search and rescue in Labrador
SEA-NL is joining with Indigenous leaders in expressing disappointment with search and rescue services in Labrador.
Merv Wiseman, a SEA-NL executive, says, "as long as the entire Labrador coastline is void of a dedicated Canadian Coast Guard ship, and a dedicated Cormorant helicopter to carry out primary SAR missions, the issue must top all agendas.”
Indigenous leaders representing the NunatuKavut community council, and the Nunatsiavut government expressed disappointment following a visit from Defence Minister Anita Anand that did not include a commitment to improved search and rescue services for Labrador.
Anand visited 5 Wing Goose Bay on Wednesday and announced funding for upgrades to air operations infrastructure at 5 Wing Goose Bay.
