SEA-NL calls on government to investigate fish price-setting system
SEA-NL is calling on the provincial government to order an investigation into the fish price-setting system.
The organization says that the three largest commercial fisheries in the province are in chaos.
Ryan Cleary, SEA-NL’s Executive Director said, “It’s obvious that last year’s lightning fast, three-month review of the price-setting system — a review that didn’t even bother to consult with inshore enterprise owners — was a token attempt at reform by a government unwilling and unprepared to act.”
Some changes have been made to the final-offer selection model. That occurs when the union and processors can’t agree on a price and a government-appointed panel will decide on the price.
