Officials from NL Hydro and Newfoundland Power are warning that rotating power outages are possible due to issues with the Bay d’Espoir hydroelectric generating plant.
Customers are asked to conserve power to prevent an overload on the system.
The current electricity supply is getting close to maximum capacity.
Electricity is coming from Muskrat Falls and from Nova Scotia to help compensate.
Power Conservation Tips
Limit use of large appliances like dishwashers, clothes washers, and dryers
Avoid using hot water when possible (shorter showers, cold-water laundry)
Turn off lights, TVs, and electronics when not in use
Lower thermostats slightly, especially in rooms that aren’t being used
Unplug chargers and small appliances when they’re not needed
Delay non-essential electricity use until off-peak hours
Keep doors and windows closed to retain heat
Use microwaves or slow cookers instead of ovens when possible
