RNC Tackles Impaired Drivers During Holiday Season Blitz #nltraffic

Over the holiday season, the RNC stopped several impaired drivers and also identified other infractions during a targeted initiative.

During the 12-day targeted traffic safety initiative, RNC focused on the detection of impaired driving on the Northeast Avalon, in the Corner Brook region and in Labrador West.

These operations included both traditional traffic checkpoints, as well as covert targeted events.

Throughout this timeframe, 18 drivers were charged with impaired driving-related offences. The targeted traffic operation also detected several operators with a blood-alcohol concentration just below 50 mg. A total of 22 vehicles were seized and driver’s license suspended in connection with a combination of both impaired driving related offences and excessive speeding.

There were also numerous drivers that were operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, insurance policy, or valid registration.
