The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is asking for the public’s assistance following a break-and-enter in St. John’s that resulted in the theft of a firearm.

Police say the incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on April 7 and 9 a.m. on April 8 in the Rabbittown area. An individual gained access to a residence and removed a firearm that had been stored inside a gun cabinet.

The stolen firearm is described as a Winchester 75 .22-calibre single-shot rifle. Investigators believe the firearm may be inoperable.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information, or who may have video footage from the area — including Freshwater Road, Empire Avenue, Mayor Avenue and Merrymeeting Road — during the time of the incident to contact the RNC at 709-729-8000.
