RNC Make Arrest and Seize Weapons in St. John’s
The RNC made an arrest and seized a number of illegal firearms in St. John’s last Wednesday.
Police responded to a residence on Durdle Drive in the Goulds area of St. John’s after receiving a report of a weapons offence which had just occurred.
Officers determined that a male had entered the home with a firearm, and had left the location prior to police arrival. It was believed that the male had forced a female, known to the male, to accompany him in leaving the area in a vehicle.
At approximately 5:30 pm, police located the suspect male operating a vehicle, with the female in the passenger seat, in the center city area of St. John’s.
The male was taken into police custody without incident.
The female had not sustained any injuries.
The 25-year-old male from St. John’s has been charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and other firearms-related offences.
Officers seized a variety of weapons, including several illegal firearms, cross-bows, bear spray, smoke bombs, brass knuckles, firearm accessories and ammunition.
The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court in connection with the charges.
