RNC investigating suspicious death in St. John's

RNC responded to a suspicious death that occurred in the downtown area of St. John’s near Carter’s Hill on Thursday evening.

Officers responded to a report of an assault in progress in the street. Responding officers were informed that a male had sustained serious injuries.

When officers arrived, they located a male with serious injuries lying on the ground in the area.

Paramedics with the Ambulance Department pronounced the male deceased at the scene a short time later. The death is being treated as a homicide.

A female in the area was taken in to custody in connection with the death of the male who had succumbed to his injuries. The 28-year-old from St. John’s has been charged with second-degree murder. She will appear in Provincial Court at some time today.

The male and female were believed to be known to each other.

The investigation is ongoing.
