The RNC is investigating a break-in at a bank on Commonwealth Avenue in Mount Pearl that involved the use of heavy equipment this morning just after 4 a.m.

An ATM has been taken from the site and the building was significantly damaged.

This is the second reported bank break-in in this neighbourhood alone since September 2024 involving the use of heavy machinery.

The RNC is asking contractors to take steps to better secure their property and construction sites. Consideration should be given to installing locks on cabs, doors and control panels. Immobilizers could be used to prevent unauthorized use and alarms could be used to trigger when equipment is tampered with. Keys should never be left onsite and a key management system would help prevent resale or key cutting.

Residents are reminded to report any suspicious activity such as the use of heavy equipment after-hours, to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
