RNC catch three impaired drivers in about an hour in St. John's


Last night the RNC in the St. John's metro region stopped three impaired drivers.


The first one was picked up at 1:38 am when a patrol officer stopped a vehicle with an extremely loud exhaust in the downtown area. The 25-year-old male was administered the roadside screening test and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver had his driver’s license suspended for seven days and the car was impounded.


At 2:27 am officers conducted a traffic stop in the downtown area. The officer observed a strong smell of alcohol coming from the driver. Police made a demand for the driver to provide a breath sample. The 19-year-old male received a seven day driver's license suspension and the car was impounded.


While on routine patrol in the downtown area, an officer noticed a driver perform an illegal u-turn in his vehicle around 2:45 am. The officer conducted a traffic stop and determined the male was driving while under the influence of alcohol. The 34-year-old male was detained and brought to RNC headquarters where he provided two breath samples. His alcohol level was almost twice the legal limit for alcohol. He was charged with impaired driving. He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date. His car was impounded.
