Resource Enforcement investigating suspected moose poaching near Stephenville


The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands is seeking information following the discovery of a dead moose on a resource road near Stephenville.
Resource Enforcement officers began an investigation after the remains of an adult female moose were found on Camp 185 Resource Road on the morning of September 24, 2026.
The entrance to the road is located off the Trans-Canada Highway about five kilometres east of the intersection with Route 460, also known as White's Road.
Officials say intentionally allowing the flesh of wildlife killed for food to be destroyed, wasted or spoiled is an offence under the provincial Wild Life Act.
Intentional wastage of wildlife meat carries a fine of at least $500 and up to $25,000. Failure to pay the fine can result in imprisonment for up to three months.
