Residents Encouraged to Participate in National Census
The provincial Department of Finance is asking residents to complete their 2021 Census.
The census collects information about every person in the country and the results assist in determining funding formulas for major federal transfer payments to provinces, like the health and social transfers this province receives, are based, in part, on population counts.
As a result, every person not included in the census may result in less federal revenue to the province and, therefore, lower funding for the programs and services that residents depend on.
The province uses census information in planning and monitoring programs in areas such as health care, education and social programs. Census information is also essential when planning roads, waterworks, public transit, and police and fire services. In addition, town planners use census data on households and families to plan current and future housing needs and municipal infrastructure.
