Through social distancing, ceremonies were held across Canada to remember the Battle of the Atlantic.

It was the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, ran from 1939 to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, covering a major part of the Naval history of World War II.

The Battle commenced on September 3, 1939 and ran through May 8, 1945. This equals 5 years, 8 months and 5 days.

It took place in the Atlantic Ocean, Río de la Plata, North Sea, Irish Sea, Labrador Sea, Gulf of St. Lawrence, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Outer Banks, and Arctic Ocean. The result was an allied victory.

At its core was the Allied naval blockade of Germany, announced the day after the declaration of war, and Germany's subsequent counter-blockade. The campaign peaked from mid-1940 through to the end of 1943.
