Registered Nurses to begin prescribing medication and make specialist referrals

Registered Nurses in the province will now have the ability to prescribe medication and make referrals to specialists.

This is meant to address recruitment and retention challenges currently being faced by the province and allow health care professionals to work to their full scope of practice.

Registered Nurses will be required to complete additional prescribing education from a program approved by the College of Registered Nurses, along with continuing competency requirements.
