RCMP Warning of Scam Involving Visa Cards

The RCMP in Rocky Harbour is warning the public of a new scam involving what appears to be a pre-paid Visa card with a $100.00 credit, addressed to essential workers as an appreciation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police say that over the past few days, they have received a number of reports from residents who received an envelope in the mail marked as being from Trucash which contains the Visa card. A letter accompanies the card explaining the process for online or over the phone activation. One of the steps to activate the card requires the input of the last four digits of the person’s social insurance number.

The card is black in colour with the word Visa in the bottom right corner. The bottom left side of the card says “100 DOLLARS THANK YOU-MERCI”.
