RCMP responded to accident involving horse on Veterans Memorial Highway

On Monday the RCMP responded to a multi-vehicle collision involving a horse on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Shortly before midnight, a domestic horse escaped from a nearby fenced area. Two vehicles had minor contact with the animal and sustained minor damages. Another vehicle collided with the horse and then collided with a fourth vehicle that was attempting to avoid the collision.

Two drivers, a 33-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were transported to Carbonear General hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The owner of the horse attended the scene. Due to the level of injuries sustained, the animal was put down to prevent further suffering.

The investigation is continuing.
