RCMP Respond to House Fire, One Man Charged

A 63-year-old man has been charged under the Forestry Act following a report of a house fire in Piccadilly last week.

Police attended the scene and found that a house that was vacant and condemned was on fire.

Although the fire was unintentionally set, it originated from an intentionally set grass fire that got out of control.

The man was charged with burning without a permit.

RCMP NL reminds the public of the current fire ban, which includes grass fires, that is in effect for all of Newfoundland and Labrador. The minimum fine for violating the ban is $1000.
