RCMP Police Service Dog Phox and handler track down assault suspect hiding in wooded area, man arrested


As part of an assault investigation, 35-year-old Roderick Tshakapesh was apprehended by Police Service Dog Phox on August 7, 2024.


At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP responded to the report of an assault. The suspect, Tshakapesh, fled the scene of the crime on foot. PSD Phox and his handler attended the scene, conducted a track and located Tshakapesh hiding in a wooded area nearby. He was arrested without incident.


Tshakapesh is charged with the following criminal offences:


  • Assault causing bodily harm

  • Uttering threats

  • Failure to comply with a condition of a release order

He attended court on August 8 and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is on August 26, 2024.
