RCMP Officer Arrested on Firearms Offences
Police have laid charges against one of their own.
Constable Levi Bennett, stationed at Whitbourne Detachment, was arrested on Friday and charged with multiple firearms offences stemming from an incident at his home on November 5 which required police response.
Bennett has been charged with careless use of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm (two counts), and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
At this time Bennett has been released from custody with multiple conditions and will appear in court on January 13.
As per RCMP policy, he has been suspended with pay.
RCMP said via a news release that at no time was any threat to the public identified.
