Two drivers, a man and a woman, are now suspended from driving following traffic stops conducted Tuesday by Mary’s Harbour RCMP.

Just before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, RCMP was on patrol along Route 510 in Labrador and observed a hatchback-style car travelling at a high rate of speed.

A radar reading of 143 km/h in a posted 80 km/h speed zone was obtained and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver, a Port Hope Simpson woman, was ticketed for speeding more than 51 km/h above the speed limit. Officers issued a seven-day suspension of her driver’s licence.

Less than thirty minutes later, at approximately 11:20 a.m., police observed a truck travelling at a high rate of speed in the same area. Radar readings displayed the truck’s speed as 141 km/h. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a resident of St. Anthony, was ticketed for speeding more than 51 km/h above the speed limit. He was also issued a seven-day driver’s licence suspension.
