RCMP investigating online scam, urging possible victims to come forward

The RCMP in Holyrood is investigating after a resident reported an online marketplace scam, and is urging anyone with a similar experience to contact police.

Back in November, police received a report from an individual who paid a deposit via e-transfer for a purchase from Facebook Marketplace and believed they were the victim of an online scam. An investigation found the social media account and email address associated with the transaction were connected with other suspicious online activity.

There are likely other victims in the province who have not come forward to police. Anyone who has been the victim of a similar online marketplace scam is urged to contact their local police detachment to make a report.

Cybercrime and fraud are serious criminal offences.
