RCMP Charges 3 Drivers for Excessive Speeds



Three drivers stopped at different times and locations on the Trans-Canada Highway Wednesday for excessive speeding face a fine of more than $500.00 each and will need to find alternative means of transportation after their licences were suspended and their vehicles were impounded by police.


At approximately 9:00 a.m., RCMP Traffic Services Central observed a vehicle west of Clarenville travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s speed was displayed on the radar as 158 km/h. The driver, a 33-year-old woman, was ticketed, her driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.


At approximately 3:00 p.m., an officer with RCMP Traffic Services West was parked on the side of the TCH near Hampden Junction. The officer observed a vehicle coming towards the back of the patrol car at a high rate of speed and obtained a radar reading of 161 km/h. The driver, a 47-year-old White Bay man was ticketed, his driver's licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.


At approximately 3:45 p.m., Glovertown RCMP was on patrol between Gambo and Glovertown and observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s speed was displayed on the radar as 155 km/h. The driver, a 30-year-old Fogo man, was ticketed, his driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.
