RCMP Arrests Woman After Theft at Glovertown Irving
The RCMP in Glovertown have arrested a 31-year-old woman following a theft at the Glovertown Irving.
On June 7, police responded to the report of the theft. A woman entered the store and stole cartons of cigarettes from the counter.
She fled through the door and got into the passenger side of a small blue car with a male driver.
The car quickly left the parking lot and was last seen heading west on the Trans-Canada Highway towards Gander.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from the store and recognized the woman. Gander RCMP, along with RCMP Traffic Services, patrolled and located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
Before the car came to a complete stop, police observed the woman throwing cigarette cartons out of the window. Officers seized the cartons and confirmed they were stolen property.
The woman was arrested for theft and was released from custody with conditions to stay away from Glovertown Irving. She is set to appear in court at a later date to face a charge of theft under $5000.00.
Police recovered and returned the stolen merchandise to the store and the investigation is continuing to determine if charges will be laid against the driver.
