On Friday evening, an RCMP officer observed a snowmobile travelling on the Main Road in Lourdes.

The officer attempted a traffic stop and the operator failed to stop for police and fled on his snowmobile.

An item fell off the machine and the driver, Aloysuis Young, returned a few minutes later to retrieve it.

Police allege that the accused exhibited signs of alcohol impairment, failed a roadside breath test, and was arrested for impaired driving. From there, he was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit.

Young has two previous convictions of impaired driving offences from 2017 and 2020 and is prohibited from driving any type of motor vehicle anywhere in Canada.

He made a court appearance via teleconference and was released from custody.

His next court appearance is set for March 22, 2021.

He is charged with impaired driving, flight from police and driving while prohibited.
