RCMP apprehends two drug-impaired drivers with new screening tool #nltraffic


RCMP arrested two men on Saturday after they tested positive for active THC on the new roadside drug screening equipment.


At approximately 8:00 p.m., RCMP was conducting a checkpoint on Route 60 in Avondale. During the checkpoint, a 20-year-old Conception Bay South man showed signs of impairment consistent with cannabis use and was arrested for impaired driving after he tested positive for cannabis on the roadside drug screening equipment.


The man's licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.


Later that evening, at approximately 11:30 p.m., RCMP was conducting a checkpoint on Route 60 in Holyrood. Police observed a vehicle turning around to avoid the checkpoint and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 25-year-old St. John's man, showed signs of impairment consistent with cannabis use and was arrested for impaired driving after he tested positive for cannabis on the roadside drug screening equipment.


The man's licence was suspended and the vehicle was seized and impounded.


The investigations are continuing.
