We can expect a mixed bag of weather today, with showers, thunderstorms and areas of heavy rain developing in several regions.

The heaviest rainfall is expected across the Burin Peninsula, where totals of 20 to 30 mm are forecast around the Marystown area. Nearby communities on the Avalon Peninsula, including St. John’s, could see 10 to 15 mm of rain through the day.

Elsewhere on the Island, rainfall amounts are expected to be lighter. Corner Brook and Port aux Basques are forecast to receive between 5 and 10 mm, while Gander could see 2 to 4 mm. Grand Falls-Windsor is expected to pick up around 5 mm.

In Labrador, rainfall amounts will generally be low. Labrador City is forecast to receive 2 to 4 mm, Churchill Falls around 2 mm, while Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Nain are expected to remain largely dry.

Temperatures will vary considerably across the province. The warmest conditions are expected in western Newfoundland, where Corner Brook could reach 23 C. Happy Valley-Goose Bay is forecast to climb to 20 C, while Grand Falls-Windsor and Gander are expected to reach 20 C and 19 C, respectively.

Cooler temperatures are expected along coastal areas, with highs near 17 C in St. John’s and St. Anthony, 18 C in Port aux Basques, 15 C in Churchill Falls, 14 C in Nain and 13 C in Labrador City.

Thunderstorms are possible across parts of western and southwestern Newfoundland, particularly near Corner Brook and Port aux Basques, while periods of rain are expected across much of central and eastern Newfoundland. Areas of fog and drizzle may also develop along portions of the northeast coast and Avalon Peninsula.

The wettest conditions are expected to occur across southeastern Newfoundland, where locally heavy rainfall could lead to ponding of water on roads and reduced visibility at times.
