Quebec has new Premier

Quebec has a new Premier.

Former Cabinet minister Christine Fréchette has been elected as the CAQ leader.

In the leadership to replace François Legault, Fréchette defeated Bernard Drainville with 57.9 percent of the vote.

On January 14, Legault announced his resignation as leader of the CAQ and premier.

The next Québec provincial general election is scheduled for October 5, 2026.
