Purity Factories was evacuated on Thursday as firefighters attended to a fire in the roof of the building.

Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department were called to Purity Factories on Blackmarsh Road at 12:50 p.m. today for reports of a commercial structure fire.

A worker inside the building reportedly noticed smoke around one of the oven vents; after investigating, they noticed a small drop in the ceiling revealing some smoke and fire. The fire was quickly contained by a fire extinguisher.

Firefighters worked on the exterior and interior of the building to make sure the fire did not spread into other parts of the building. Firefighters used a chainsaw to cut open the roof of the building to make sure the fire was out; they also used a ladder truck to gain access to the roof of the building.

Purity Factories was evacuated as fire crews worked to secure the scene. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
