Provincial Government Provides Update on Artist Support Program

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation introduced the Artist Support Program in November to assist professional artists and musicians whose earnings have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this new short-term program, eligible applicants may receive a non-repayable, one-time contribution of up to $5,000.

The program has received 260 applications and has paid out $1,025,000 to eligible applicants – and these numbers are still growing.

As part of the eligibility guidelines, applicants must meet the criteria of a professional artist, as outlined in the Status of the Artist Act. Eligible applicants must also have experienced a loss of at least 25 percent in opportunities and earnings from their artistic activities since March 16, 2020.

The program will remain open until January 29, 2021.
